Chemka Hotspring Day Trip

TRIP INTRODUCTION

Situated about 35 kilometers from Moshi in the heart of the Sanya Plains lies the Rundugai Springs. They are an extraordinary phenomenon, rushing up from underground in the middle of parched and dusty landscape.

Locally called Chemka, meaning boiling, this refers to the way in which the water appears to boil as it emerges from underground.

In fact, the water is not hot rather it is a pleasant temperature! This is a good place to visit for a picnic and a swim too. And the views of Kilimanjaro on a clear day are also fabulous. Unfortunately, the water is full of fluoride which means the local people can’t use it for drinking

We will pick you up in the morning around 9am. The ride to the hot spring takes about an hour and leads partly over bumpy slopes. First we go past sugar cane plantations. Then we come to the African scrubland. Dried river beds, baobab, and acacia trees accompany us on our way. The hot spring are the closest to the village of Rundugai and are one of the most beautiful places in Tanzania to relax. The small ponds is surrounded by palm and fig trees with winding roots. In the morning blue monkey can often be observed in the trees, while the crystal clear, turquoise invites you to a refreshing bath. Enjoy a wonderful day in just the way you want, in the sun dozing, chatting with the locals at the small bar, or swimming. At noon we will have picnic lunch, and the late afternoon we return relaxed to moshi.
